- Early 2491: The Korhalian rebels begin beefing up their anti-air defenses and begin a massive recruitment drive of the planet's population.[1]
- Valerian Mengsk begins training in martial arts and the use of the CMC Powered Combat Suit.[2]
- The Guild Wars having ended, the Kel-Morian Combine and Terran Confederacy carry out a prisoner exchange program. Tychus Findlay is returned to the Confederacy, promptly incarcerated for desertion under fire during the conflict.[3] This will be the last time he and his friend Jim Raynor see each other for fourteen years.[4]
- Sarah Kerrigan and a number of other telepaths are transferred to the Fujita Facility to take part in a series of experiments involving xenomorphs.[1]
- Late 2491: A tour ship is scheduled to visit the Fujita Pinnacle on Vyctor 5. However, weeks later, it is canceled at the last minute.[1]
- Rumors begin to circulate of Arcturus Mengsk having formed an alliance between the rebellious Confederate colony of Korhal and Umoja. All other attempts to bring the planet back in line having failed, the Confederacy settles on a final solution. In an instant, Korhal is turned into a radioactive wasteland via a massive nuclear strike.[5][6]
- Simultaneously with Korhal's destruction, Aurora Station is jettisoned from orbit around the planet (or so rumor holds).[7]
- News of Korhal's destruction reaches Mengsk at Umoja. The Sons of Korhal are formed, the group initiating a series of attacks against Confederate installations in their efforts to overthrow the Confederacy.[1][6]
- In one of the attacks, the Sons rescue ghost Sarah Kerrigan from Confederate custody. She later leads a Sons of Korhal attack on the Ghost Academy.[1]
