The academy was the primary center of research for new technologies for the Confederate Marine Corps, seeking to improve the quality of its personnel.[1] Despite this, it appears the academy was looked on with dread by some soldiers, raising questions about its true nature.[2]

It was used by the United Earth Directorate for equipping medics.[3] The building does not appear in StarCraft II, its functions taken by the tech lab.[4]
