[edit] History
During the Great War, the protoss struck an "uneasy alliance" with Raynor's Raiders, the forerunner or beginning of the Alliance. The Conclave knew of its existence and would maintain some relations with it.[1]
After the Brood War, Alliance forces saw action on and around Dylar IV, defeating a large zerg force. As of this time, Jim Raynor was leading the Alliance.[1]
Raynor resumed the leadership of his own forces, leaving the current Alliance leadership in question.[2]

[edit] Notes
- The Alliance shares some similarities with the Umojan Protectorate considering that the Protectorate seeks a truce with the protoss.
- The Alliance may be based on the Alliance of Blizzard's Warcraft series. The Alliance is one of the two main factions in Warcraft, created in light of the threat of the Horde, which served as a distinct antagonist in the early RTS games. StarCraft's Alliance parallels this, the protoss and terrans facing the universal threat of the zerg.
