The Amerigo was a science vessel.
Boarded by the Queen of BladesEdit
The ship was attached to Alpha Squadron in 2500 and deployed to Char. There it was boarded by zerg led by Sarah Kerrigan who successfully retrieved classified Ghost Program data needed to break the ghost conditioning holding back her psionic powers. After Kerrigan departed a number of escape pods were launched towards the planet's surface, where they were found by Raynor's Raiders. However, the survivors were severely injured and quickly died.
It was later boarded by a special demolition squad in order to investigate the reports of zerg and, if confirmed, detonate a thermonuclear charge to destroy the station. They were trapped by several hydralisks and, after suffering casualties, detonated the nuclear warhead, destroying the ship and taking themselves and the zerg with it.
Different sources depict different accounts of the Amerigo being destroyed. In StarCraft, a salvage team boarded the Amerigo and destroyed it with the nuke. StarCraft: Queen of Blades however, seems to suggest the ship was destroyed by the protoss.
Amerigo Vespucci was an Italian explorer who showed the Europeans that the Americas were not a part of Asia. The Americas are named after him.
