Ballistic Alloy Combat Shield
From StarCraft Wiki
The LarsCorp Technologies M98 ballistic alloy combat shield[1] is a terran personal protective device. It was issued to marines after the Brood War demonstrated their vulnerability on increasingly lethal battlefields. The shield is mounted on one arm while the soldier's weapon is fired from the other.[2]
The shield consists of 25mm of synchromeshed neosteel, ablative foam and tri-phase bonded carbide can increase marine survivability by 33%.[1]
[edit] Game Effect
The shield increases a marine's HP.[3][4][5] This enables a marine to survive a hit from a high damage unit, after which it can be quickly healed by a medivac dropship.[6]

- ↑ Yup, the Marines still have upgradable shields, making a huge difference late game against more high damage units. As long as those Marines can survive that initial hit, the Medivac Dropships does an awesome job of bringing them back to full health in no time. Karune. 2008-09-16. - ↑ Marines are much more useful than the original StarCraft, mostly because they have more hit points now. Even in mid game, they can be armed with Combat Shields, giving them a whopping 55 hit points. That combined with Stim Pack and Medivac Dropships healing, is quite a formidable force. Nonetheless, in early game, it is a must to combine them with Marauders, to slow Zealots and force fire Roaches. Karune. 2009-03-17. What's the point of marines? (post 11).
