Bio-scanners are pieces of terran equipment built into installations. They are capable to registering terran life signs,[1] and can track their health status, up to detecting traces of drugs in their bloodstream.[2] They may be accessed externally, though access codes are required, such codes being known only by high ranking personnel. With the right connections however, these protocols can be easily overridden.

Bio-scanners appear to only be capable of registering terran life signs as opposed to organisms as a whole, as they were incapable of detecting zerg within the Flannum Installation.[1] Regardless, they were installed in the Blackstone facility too, where they proved ineffectual in tracking the released zerglings as well.[3]
