All zerg are directly subject to the will of the Overmind; it is a biological impossibility for them to oppose its directives. Only Cerebrates (smaller brains), and possibly Overlords and Queens, have sentience, and control a different army (called a Brood), using Overlords as lieutenants to directly control the warriors and workers. Control is a zerg gameplay counter limiting the size of a zerg force. The number of counters is increased by constructing select units, to a maximum of 200. New units may be produced so long as the cumulative control "cost" of all active units does not exceed the number of available control counters. A player generates control by creating overlords. Overseers continue to exert control.
Each Zerg player has two Control counters - the first refers to the amount of control being used by the player's units and the second refers to the amount of total control available. The difference in the two numbers is the amount of control that is still available for spawn additional units. In the context of a multiplayer match, when an Overlord dies, a Zerg player loses Control points, and must grow more Overlords to replace the loss. Once the difference in the two numbers reaches zero, a player will not be able to spawn any additional units (except Overlords and Larvae). Hidden is a 200 point Control max, the limit beyond which your production structures can no longer turn out units no matter how many control production objects you create.

Control is a measure of how much control a zerg commander has over its minions. Zerg higher-ranking than overlords (e.g. the Overmind, cerebrates, and Kerrigan) cannot directly control their minions, and must exert control through overlords.[1][2]

Gameplay

Control is a zerg gameplay counter limiting the size of a zerg force. The number of counters is increased by constructing select units, to a maximum of 200. New units may be produced so long as the cumulative control "cost" of all active units does not exceed the number of available control counters. A player generates control by creating overlords. Overseers continue to exert control.

Terran supply and protoss psi serve the same purpose as control.

In strategy discussions, control levels may be denoted as x/y, where x is the control used, and y is the total available control.
