A dark moon was discovered by Zeratul near Char, shortly after protoss forces were heavily defeated by Infested Kerrigan's attacks on them.

The protoss had never colonized it, but Zeratul's small warband detected protoss signatures there. Zeratul believed the energies may have been emitted by Artanis or other protoss survivors of Kerrigan's attacks. However, they faced a force of terrans there as well.

Zeratul personally led a small force to the surface, fighting his way past the mercenaries, who had amassed a quantity of protoss technology, including photon cannons and stasis cells. The cells contained a number of protoss prisoners, whom Zeratul attempted to free. Other cells included zerg, which were being used in strange experiments, including hybridization with protoss.

At the final stasis cell, Zeratul was confronted by Samir Duran, the leader of the experiment. He admitted to creating the hybrid, and claimed it would "change the universe" forever. Zeratul, angered, destroyed the creature and the facility.^[1]
