In StarCraft II, drones are rallied separately from other units with the "G" key, which can be combined with automine. Unlike their predecessors, they no longer have a ranged attack.

Unlike most other zerg ground units, drones do not gain a speed boost on creep.

When Kerrigan reaches a certain level in the Heart of the Swarm campaign, drones can be morphed in pairs if Kerrigan selects Twin Drones.

Game UnitEdit

AbilitiesEdit

The drone morphs into structures and harvests minerals and vespene gas. Idle drones can be selected by pushing F1.

Many zerg ground units may burrow, become invisible and may be revealed primarily by detectors, and may not move or attack. Exceptions are the roach, which may move while burrowed, the infestor, which may move and cast Infested Terran,[1] and the baneling, which can detonate while burrowed.

Some units can unburrow via autocast, causing them to emerge and attack when an enemy moves into range.

The ability is not smartcast.

Co-op MissionsEdit

In Co-op Missions, all zerg commanders use drones as their worker unit. Zagara starts from Level 1 with the ability to morph two drones from a single larva.

DevelopmentEdit

The following section contains information from a previous version of StarCraft II which is no longer valid.

The original drone render in StarCraft II

In earlier builds of StarCraft II, drones were not required to build defensive structures, such a role having been taken over by the queen.[2] Drones have regained their ability to create defensive structures.[3][4]
