A hive mind emulator is a terran structure used to mind control zerg creatures. They are available in the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty campaign.

Overview[]

The emulator was developed by Egon Stetmann for Raynor's Raiders during the Second Great War. Stetmann based it on research into zerg DNA, where he located the Overmind's original strain. The strain provided enough insight on how the Overmind controlled the Swarm for it to be reproduced.[1]

Game Unit[]

The emulator is unlocked in the zerg research tree after acquiring 25 zerg research points in Hyperion's laboratory.[1]

Acquisition[]

Unlocks the hive mind emulator for production.[1]

This emulator can mimic the signals of the now-deceased Overmind and bring individual zerg units under our permanent control. Heroic units are immune.

Each conversion taxes the battery heavily, though, so a long recharge may be required before the next target can be controlled.

Abilities[]

Mind Control: The emulator can permanently mind control a zerg unit for 50 energy at a range of 11. Hive mind emulators cannot control heroic units or drones. Mind controlled zerg will count towards player control. Hive mind emulators can control as many zerg as their energy allows, and players do not lose control of zerg if hive mind emulators are destroyed.

Building Upgrades[]

All structures repair themselves to 50% life. All structure fires are automatically put out.

This all-in-one safety system automatically dispatches robotic drones to put out any fires and perform basic repairs on damaged structures. Although these drones are effective at doing basic repairs, they do not have a strong enough AI to perform the more delicate repairs needed to restore a structure past half life.[2]

Campaign Acquisition

Acquired from Hyperion armory for $90,000

Development[]

The hive mind emulator was the last terran structure designed for Wings of Liberty. More work went into its design than some other terran structures.[3]

Tips[]

  • Mind controlled zerg units do not occupy supply. This means one can create a swarm of zerg with an infinite amount, capable of wiping out all enemies on the map.
  • In a small number, you can choose to control the strongest zerg in an attack wave to turn the tide. In a large number, they can turn a swarm to your favor.
    • Despite Ultralisk's passive "Frenzied" says it is immune to Mind Control, it can be mind controlled by Hive Mind Emulator.
    • In many speed run clips, players use mind control on a large number Mutalisks, since it is a flying unit meaning it can navigate the map with ease, and can hit multiple targets at once.
  • Mind Control has about the same reach(9) compared to Brood Lords(9.5)
