The scantipede is a creature found on Monlyth,[1] Char,[2] Vardona,[3] Cantar,[4] and Typhon XI.[5] The scantipede is described as a "ferocious predator", but it lacks the natural weaponry to harm military units.[6]

Fried scantipede legs are consumed by terrans.[7]

A strain of the scantipede found on Cantar has the ability to inject a parasite into its prey, creating smaller scantipedes after its prey dies. This trait was assimilated by the zerg into the roach to create the corpser strain.[8]

Game Unit[]

The scantipede appears as a critter in StarCraft II.[9]

Heart of the Swarm[]

"Parasites swarm within its exoskeleton. Upon exposure to its spray the victim is quickly impregnated with parasites which burst from their unwilling corpse."

- Parasitic scantipede description(src)

The parasitic scantipede appears in the Heart of the Swarm single-player campaign. It has the ability to inject its parasite into the victims of its attacks. The large scantipede deals 20 damage with an attack similar to the roach, while the smaller ones spawned by its attacks deal 5. It is required to be killed to obtain the corpser strain, which generates roachlings in a similar manner.[8]
