The town was originally a walled outpost. By the 25th century the population had grown to ten thousand and caused the settlement to expand beyond the walls. Fields were located nearby as well as a river and a canyon. The town square often hosted concerts and plays during summer evenings. Zarahemla Starport was located close by.
At the beginning of the Great War, Helaman was raided by Confederacy to conscript recruits for the Confederate Marine Corps. Ardo Melnikov was taken and memories of terran attack were buried by neural resocialization such that he only remembered the town being attacked by zerg in place of marines.
