In StarCraft: Ghost, infested marines are available as player units. They still regenerate health and can still explode, but their main weapons are claws and an "infested" gauss rifle which fires poisonous rounds of ammunition[1] which deal damage over time.[2]
The infested marine costs two points in the Invasion game mode.[3]
StarCraft II
Infested marines are units nearly identical to the infested terran. They may be spawned by infested colonist huts at a time cost of 2.[4] They are distinguished as infested marines in-game to distinguish them from their unarmed infested colonist counterparts.[5]
Their portrait is a reward.[6]
The animation for when the unit's timed life ends is the marine blowing its own head off.

Development

Infested marines were one of the last models to be updated for StarCraft II. It was juggled around frequently as the design team searched for the correct gameplay role for this unit. The appreciation for the unit was always very high and the development team intended for this unit to return to the game somehow.[7]
Infested marines were produced from infested terran buildings in alpha versions of StarCraft II.[8]
