Mandible Canyon is a massive landform on Shi. It is larger than the nearby Tendril Canyon, and it is said to be so wide that the one side is not visible from the other.[1]
When the Terran Dominion sent zerg drone to eliminate the Terran Confederacy remnants on the planet, the zerg established a large number of hatcheries south of Mandible Canyon. When the battlecruiser Cyrus responded to the distress call of the children of the Old Families on the planet, it failed to detect the zerg presence in the canyon, and was counterattacked by the forces there after launching a nuclear missile barrage at a smaller group of nearby hatcheries. The overwhelming zerg force in the canyon shot down the Cyrus, though the ghost trainees sent to the surface were able to hold off the zerg onslaught and escape the planet.[2]
