The following section contains information from a previous version of StarCraft II which is no longer valid.

The StarCraft II marketplace was to be a store where players could buy premium content maps. Only extremely complicated maps were expected to be charged for (DotA-like maps were considered too simple for this).[1]

A portion of the revenue would go to the map maker. A large selection of free maps would be available as well.[2]

The maps could be rated and commented on.[2]

The launch of the marketplace was at least a year out in April 2010.[3]
Blizzard admitted they were struggling with the creation of the marketplace in 2011[4], and it would not be ready in time for the launch of Heart of the Swarm[5] (released in 2013).[6]
The concept was replaced with the Arcade system.[7]
