Nanites (a.k.a. nanobots or nanomachines) are a form of technology available to terrans and protoss.

Overview[]

Medics have access to medical nanobots, which are programmed for cellular hyper-repair[1]. Medivac dropships can likewise carry out healing functions via nanomachines[2]. Before the advancements brought by United Earth Directorate medics, medical nanites were utilized by the terrans of the Koprulu sector for advanced medical procedures, such as nano-brachytherapy.[3]

Regenerative bio-steel is a material that uses internal nanobots to slowly repair hull damage. However, the rate of repair is much slower than that carried out by SCVs. Science vessels modified by Egon Stetmann during the Second Great War were able to utilize nanites in order to repair allied vehicles.[4]

Simulant corruptors were equipped with self-replicating nanites that were programmed to function identically to the zerg corruptor's spores.[5]

The protoss were able to develop anti-zerg nanites that could at least temporarily reverse the infestation process of terrans[6]. The wounded pilots of immortals are immersed in a nutrient solution with microscopic nanomachines to aid in their function.[1]

During their ceasefire, the Terran Dominion came into possession of a number of protoss nanites through illicit means. These were utilized by the Dominion Special Forces in their tech labs to improve energy output and research speed.[5]

The Umojan Protectorate has access to advanced medical nanites, which often fell into use among terran mercenary groups.[7]

Stetmann developed a roach-nite for his Mecha Swarm, which could burrow into structures and cause significant damage, before emerging as fully grown mecha roaches.[8]

Project Simulant was speculated to utilize advanced nanotechnology in their creep tumors, though these tumors would explode when opened, preventing research.[5]

Trivia[]

Similar technology exists in Blizzard's Overwatch universe. In both cases, 'healing beams' are among the methods of delivery.
