The Observer is a small aerial drone employed by the protoss to survey vast wastelands, observe and record battles for study and for deep-space exploration. Their complex sensor array leaves little energy for defenses but can detect cloaked and concealed units with ease. When deployed in a battle zone, they are equipped with a micro-cloaking field.^[1]

The Observer is also seemingly capable of traveling through Warp space, although this may require the aid of other craft.^[2]

Observers are the protoss' mobile detectors. Although Observers are 'permanently' cloaked protoss players must be more alert to enemy anti-cloak units; the Observer's low health gives little time to escape attackers. Observers are cheap enough to have a handful accompany an attack force, especially against a target with many detectors.
