The shrike turret is an automated gun mounted a top terran bunkers.

The turret was developed during the Second Great War by Raynor's Raiders, based on research into zerg spore crawlers.[1]

Game Unit

The turret upgrade is available in the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty campaign. It is researched in Hyperion's laboratory and costs 5 zerg research points.[1] Players must choose between researching shrike turrets or reinforcing bunkers (+150 hitpoints). Shrike turrets on their own will not substitute the bunker they're attached to that's been loaded with marines. A number of units can out shoot the shrike turret but not the marines inside, allowing the marines to focus on the long range units while the shrike turret(s) take care of anything that comes in closer (namely zerglings).

Development

The following section contains information from a previous version of StarCraft II which is no longer valid.

The turret was once designated the "Mk.8 Shrike automated impaler turret", and it was created by Servo Servants.[2]
