The spotter is a variant strain of the overseer. During the Second Great War, a number of spotters were present on Meinhoff.[1]

During the End War, they appeared on a fringe Terran Dominion colony, and allied commanders were called in to destroy them.[2]

Game Unit[]

Left 2 Die[]

Spotters are zerg NPC units found in the map "Left 2 Die". Unlike overseers, they are capable of attacking ground and air units directly. They possess a contaminate ability similar to that of the overseer which can be used on structures. Unlike a regular overseer, they have a little round mouth and their regular, usually orange eyes are green instead.[1]

The spotter is far more durable than the overseer, and moves at approximately the same rate. Its ability to incapacitate structures makes it very dangerous against lone bunkers or missile turrets.

Co-op Missions[]

Spotters appear as special infested on the Dead of Night mission of Co-op Missions. They are flying terrors that can deal bonus damage to structures, disable structures and give high ground vision for ranged attackers. As they can disable pylons, it would a good idea for a protoss player to have defenses powered by multiple pylons as they can only disable one pylon at a time. Also, protoss players can constuct multiple pylons in front of allied structures as 'decoys' for their phase shift.[2]

Trivia[]

As Left 2 Die is based on Left 4 Dead 2, so similarly is the spotter likely based on the Spitter.
