The map is set in the same style as ''[[Blizzard DotA|Defense of the Ancients]]'', though is faster, less complicated and set in space. Each player controls a vessel chosen at the beginning (there's 8 vessels and a random option available) and has the aim of supporting attacking NPC starships as they try to take out an enemy [[space platform|space station]]. The vessel's weapons can be upgraded as the fight goes on, but the ship must be near the space station to buy the upgrades. Each ship can carry a number of its own fighters for fire support, and they are quickly built again if lost. (Note: probably the space background is random, so there's 4-5 space views possible.)

Star Battle is a custom StarCraft II map in the style of Aeon of Strife. It is regarded as one of the best custom maps by PC Gamer and usually ranks among the most popular custom maps on Battle.net.

Overview

In Star Battle, players choose from a variety of ships for their hero unit. The objective is to support NPC ships to destroy the opposing team's space station. Ship upgrades may be bought at the friendly space station. Ships may also carry a number of fighters for support; these may be replaced quickly when lost.

The space background is randomly chosen from built-in options for each game.

Compared to Warcraft III's Defense of the Ancients AoS, Star Battle is faster, has no respawns, and is less complicated.
