Virophages are zerg structures. They infest colonies with their exhalations, which then spawn infested terrans.
In StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, they only appear in the mission Haven's Fall.[1] They were also seen on Meinhoff in Left 2 Die.[2]

Infestation Source: Virophages infest nearby colonist huts. These will then begin producing various kinds of infested terrans.
If the player does not destroy them in time, then they will completely infest the town where they are located.[1]
